Skin Allergy

Skin Allergy is irritated skin and by many factors like immune system disorders, medications and infections. Allergic skin is a condition, where an allergen is responsible for triggering the response of an immune system.

Skin allergies also known as allergic contact dermatitis mainly involves skin's redness, itching, pain, swelling and heat. The causes are due to contact with dyes, cosmetics, perfume, latex, topical medications, poison ivy, detergent and some metals.

What are skin rashes?

Rashes are the outbreak of skin inflammation and discoloration that changes the way the skin looks and feels. Eczema, poison ivy, and heat rash are the common rashes. Contact dermatitis: Contact dermatitis is a rash, due to the patient's contact with a specific chemical to which the patient is uniquely allergic or with a substance that irritates the skin directly.

Diaper rash: Diaper rash mostly occurs in infants wearing diapers when feces and urine are in contact with skin for long period.

Stasis dermatitis: This allergy is a weepy, oozy dermatitis. It occurs on the lower legs of person having chronic swelling due to poor circulation in veins.

Psoriasis: Psoriasis allergy is a bumpy scaling eruption never weeps or oozes. It tends to occur on the scalp, elbows, and knees. It causes silvery flakes of skin that scale and fall off.

Nummular eczema: This is a weepy, oozy dermatitis. This causes a coin-shaped plaques in the winter time and is mostly associated with very dry skin.

Scaly patches of skin due to fungal infection

Fungal infections: Fungi live in air, in water, in soil, in plant and some in human body. They are the primitive organism. Examples of fungi are mushrooms, mildew and mold.

Tiny spores in the air produces some fungies. We can inhale the spores or they can stick to our body. Due to this we can get fungal infection in the lungs or on the skin. If we have a weak immune system or if we are taking antibiotics then it is more likely for us to get fungal infection. It is quiet difficult to kill fungies. However for skin and nail infections we can directly apply medicine on the infected area.

Bacterial Skin Infections

Bacteria have only one cell and are living organism. Most of the bacteria are not harmful to us. Less than 1 percent of bacteria is harmful and can make people sick. Useful bacteria help to digest food, destroy cell that causes disease, and thus give the body vitamins needed. Healthy foods like yogurt and cheese are made up of useful bacteria.

But harmful bacteria can make us ill. They reproduce in our body and give off toxins chemicals which can damage tissue and make us sick. Some of the most harmful bacteria are Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and E. coli.

Some common types of skin infections due to bacteria are Cellulitis, Leprosy, and impetigo. Staphylococcal infections can also affect the skin.

Viral Infection of the skin

Capsules with genetic material inside are viruses. They are smaller than bacteria and are very tiny. Viruses can affect living, normal cells and using those cells they can multiply and produce other viruses like themselves. They make us sick by killing the cells.
